// Youth Dance Ensemble
Directed by Christine Blunden, Artistic Director of Southwest Dance, the ensemble is designed to challenge intermediate to advanced dance students with complex choreography and performance opportunities. The ensemble performs regularly in the community and at venues such as Marygrove College, Wayne State University, and Music Hall. Open by audition to youth ages 9 – 17, the ensemble rehearses at Messiah Church, located at 3816 Toledo Ave., Detroit, MI 48216.
DanceCollage
Directed by Christine Blunden, Artistic Director of Southwest Dance, this ensemble is designed to challenge intermediate to advanced students, ages 10-17, with complex choreography set by the Artistic Director and guest artists, and to offer opportunities for improvisation and student set choreography. Selected pieces are then performed at various community events and festivals which have included River Days festival, Detroit Children's Choir Concert, and Community Arts Day, and at venues such as Marygrove College, Wayne State University, and Music Hall.
Junior Company
Designed for younger, less experienced dancers, ages 8 & up. Company members learn choreography in various dance forms that are presented in selected community events as well as the Southwest Dance annual Showcase. Members are also given the opportunity to explore their own choreographic skills.
Enrollment for both ensembles is by audition only, and members are required to continue their regular dance studies in addition to the company. Rehearsals take place at Messiah Church, 3816 Toledo Ave., Detroit, MI 48216.
